Crash Testing

All new cars must pass safety test before they can be sold. The European New Car Assessment Programme (EuroNCAP) do this.

Crash test dummies are used to assess the effects of accidents on front and rear seat passengers as well as pedestrians. EuroNCAP then give each car a star rating according to their performance.

There are three types of tests:

Front impact: the test car is thrown into a barrier at 40mph.

Side impact: a model car is driven into the side of the test car at 30mph.

Pedestrian: a car is driven into a test dummy at 25mph
