When does a risk become acceptable?

Heart transplant patients are exposed to high levels of DEHP, but without the heart-lung bypass machine, the operation could not happen.

Lives saved: opponnents do not give credit for the benefits of PVC products that have been safely used for forty years.

Animal studies: use doses of DEHP that can be up to thousands of times higher than humans are exposed to.

Alternatives: the safety and suitability of alternatives are not questioned by groups who want to ban PVC. They are assumed to have a lower risk than PVC.

Science: a review of almost 500 studies concluded that there was no additional likelihood of cancer in kidney dialysis patients due to exposure to DEHP. An FDA risk assessment concluded that PVC products were safe.
