The Brent Spar is towed to a site in the North
Atlantic where the water is extremely deep. It is then sunk to
the ocean floor.

Tow the Brent Spar out into the Atlantic Ocean.

Sink in 2km deep water at the North Feni Ridge.

Structure will break up and release contents to surrounding
water.

Estimated effect limited to sea bed up to 500m from sinking
site.

Affect about 10,000 fish.
Shell estimated the sea bed would recover in 12 - 14 months.

Technically the easiest option and safest for the workers
involved.
